Southwest Monsoon to Progress Over East & Central India

Current Weather Conditions on 16th June 2011 @ 11.00 am.

The Low Pressure over the Bay of Bengal has strengthened to a Well Marked Low Pressure lying near Coastal West Bengal & Orissa. This System is expected to cross over the West Bengal Coast in a day or so.

Rainfall over Saurashtra has tapered out. It is partly cloudy with increase in Humidity over Saurashtra.

Forecast:

Saurashtra: 16th to 20th June 2011

Scattered showers to about 3 Cms. of cumulative rainfall during the forecast period is expected. Isolated places could get upto 5 Cms.

South Gujarat: 16th to 20th June

Scattered showers and light rainfall is expected during the forecast period.

Kutch & North Gujarat: 16th to 20th June

No meaningful rainfall during the forecast period.

East & Central India: 16th to 22nd June

The Well Marked Low Pressure System will initially travel Northwestwards and then Westwards over India. Under the influence of this System, heavy rainfall is expected over West Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand, Orissa, Chhatishgarh, Eastern Maharashtra (Vidarbha) & Madhya Pradesh. Cumulative Rainfall during the forecast period is expected to be between 12 Cms. to 20 Cms.

Kerala, Coastal Karnataka & Konkan: 16th to 22nd June

Monsoon trough will be active over these regions and under the cumulative effects of Bay System and the Monsoon trough along the Western Coast, heavy rainfall is expected. Cumulative Rainfall during the forecast period is expected to be between 12 Cms. to 20 Cms.
with Isolated places exceeding 20 Cms.

Monsoon Watch
The northern limit of monsoon (NLM) continues to pass through 22.0°N/60.0°E, Porbandar, Veraval, Dahanu, Nasik, Adilabad, Kanker, Jharsuguda, Ranchi, Bhagalpur, Forbesganj and Lat. 27.0°N/ Long. 87.0°E.
Conditions are favourable for further advance of southwest monsoon over some more parts of Maharashtra, rest parts of Telangana, Bihar, Jharkhand, Orissa and Chhattisgarh and some parts of east Madhya Pradesh during next 2-3 days.
