Southwest Monsoon Reaches Mumbai – Heading Towards South Gujarat & Coastal Saurashtra

Current Weather Conditions on 5th June 2011 @ 4.30 pm.

The Maximum Temperatures have shot up over Saurashtra even though there is partly cloudy weather. Yesterday the Maximum at Rajkot was 42.7 degrees C. which is about 3 Degrees C. above normal for this time of the year. Today the Maximum at Rajkot is expected to be around 43 Degrees C. The lowest Barometric Pressure at Rajkot today till now is 996.2 Mb. compared to 997.5 Mb. yesterday.

Convective clouds associated with 98A.INVEST are lying over South Gujarat and adjoining Coastal Bhavnagar District of Saurashtra.

Monsoon trough runs along South Gujarat Coast to Kerala Coast. Southwest Monsoon has reached upto 20N on the Arabian Sea Coast today. There is an UAC off Saurashtra, South Gujarat Konkan Coast.

Southwest monsoon has further advanced over remaining parts of central Arabian Sea, Konkan (including Mumbai), some more parts of Madhya Maharashtra and interior Karnataka and some parts of Marthawada.
The northern limit of monsoon (NLM) passes through 20.0°N/60.0°E, 20.0°N/70.0°E, Dhanu, Nasik, Gulbarga, Anantapur, Nellore, 15.0°N/85.0°E, 17.0°N/90.0°E and 20.0°N/94.0°E.
Conditions are favourable for further advance of southwest monsoon over some parts of north Arabian Sea, south Gujarat and some more parts of Madhya Maharashtra, Marathawada, Karnataka during next 48 hours and over some more parts of Bay of Bengal and some parts of northeastern states during next 2-3 days.
