BOB System Is Now Depression Strength

Current Weather Conditions on 5th December 2013 @ 2.00 pm.

A Low Pressure had developed over the Southeast Bay of Bengal on 1st December 2013 location Lat. 4.0 N & Long. 88.0 E. and subsequently on 2nd December it became a Well Marked Low Pressure with 20 knots winds and 1007 Mb. location Lat. 5.8 N. & Long. 85.4 E. The System tracked Westwards and yesterday the 4th December it was located South of Sri Lanka at Lat. 5.3N & Long. 81.1 E. The clouding associated with the System were spread over a very large area and the visual satellite picture indicated that the System center will be relocated Northeastwards. Today on the 5th December the Well Marked Low Pressure has strengthened further and has 30 knots winds ( 1minute average wind speed basis) and 1000 Mb. Central pressure relocated at Lat. 9.0 N & Long. 83.4 E. as per JTWC. This is an equivalent of a Depression strength. However, IMD is yet to declare it as a Depression. As per IMD 17 to 27 knots winds on a 3 minute average wind speed is considered a Depression.

Forecast: BOB System is expected to strengthen further and remain in the Sri Lanka & Tamilnadu vicinity for next four to five days thereby both these areas will get rain from this System.
