સામાન્ય રીતે દક્ષીણ પશ્ચિમ ચોમાસા ની વિદાય સૌથી પહેલા ઊત્તર પશ્ચિમ રાજસ્થાન માં થી થવા ની ગણતરી ૧ લી સપટેમબર પછી કરાય છે.

૧ લી સપ્ટેમ્બર પછી:

નીચે મૂજબ ના પરિબળો ઊત્તર પશ્ચિમ ભારત ના છેવાડાના પશ્ચિમ ભાગ માંથી ચોમાસા વિદાય માટે ધ્યાન માં લેવામાં આવે છે.

i) સતત પાંચ દિવસ તે વિસ્તાર માં વરસાદ નો વિરામ.

ii) લોવર ટ્રોપોસ્ફીયર (નીચલા વાતાવરણમાં) ૧.૫ કિ.મી. ની ઊંચાય થી નીચે માં એન્ટીસાયક્લોન પ્રસ્થાપિત થવો ( ૮૫૦ hPa અને નીચે ).

iii)      હવા માં ભેજ ના પ્રમાણ માં મોટો ઘટાડો જે વોટર વેપર (WV) સેટેલાઈટ ઈમેજ માંથી તેમજ હવામાન અંગે ના ચાર્ટ માંથી જોઈ શકાય છે.

દેશ ના બાકી ના ભાગો માં થી ચોમાસાની વિદાય:

i) દેશના બાકી ના ભાગો માંથી ચોમાસાની વિદાય વિસ્તારની સળંગતા જળવાય તે રીતે જાહેર કરવામાં આવે છે. વોટર વેપર ઈમેજ પ્રમાણે ભેજ માં ઘટાડો તેમજ સળંગ પાંચ દિવસ વરસાદ રહિત વિસ્તાર હોઈ.

ii) આખા દેશ માંથી ચોમાસું વિદાય ૧ લી ઓક્ટોબર પછી જાહેર કરવામાં આવે છે જયારે દક્ષીણ પશ્ચિમ ચોમાસું છેલ્લે દક્ષીણ ભારત માંથી વિદાય લે છે. દક્ષીણ પશ્ચિમ ના પવનો નો પ્રવાહ બદલાય જાય છે તેથી આખા દેશ માંથી ચોમાસા ની વિદાય પૂર્ણ ગણાય છે.

નોંધ : એન્ટીસાયક્લોન એટલે પવન ઘડિયાળ ના કાંટા ની જેમ ગોળ ગોળ ફૂંકતા હોઈ.
સાયક્લોન માં પવન ઘડિયાળ ના કાંટા થી ઊંધી દિશા માં ફૂંકતા હોઈ છે.

IMD criteria for Withdrawal of SW Monsoon 

a)           Withdrawal from extreme north-western parts of the country is not attempted before 1^stSeptember.

b)           After 1^st  September:

The following major synoptic features are considered for the first withdrawal from the western parts of NW India.

i)        Cessation of rainfall activity over the area for continuous 5 days.

ii)       Establishment of anticyclone in the lower troposphere (850 hPa and below)

iii)      Considerable reduction in moisture content as inferred from satellite water vapor imageries and tephigrams.

Further Withdrawal from the Country

 i)        Further withdrawal from the country is declared, keeping the spatial continuity, reduction in moisture as seen in the water vapor imageries and prevalence of dry weather for 5 days.

ii)       SW monsoon is from the southern peninsula and hence from the entire country only after 1^st October, when the circulation pattern indicates a change over from the South Westerly wind regime.
