On 16th October the Southwest Monsoon had withdrawn from most of India except parts of Southern Peninsula.
The withdrawal line pass through Lat. 19.0° N / Long. 94.0° E and Lat. 18.0° N / Long. 90.0° E, Kalingapatinam, Hyderabad, Gadag, Karwar, Lat. 15.0° N / Long. 70.0° E and
Lat. 15.0° N / Long. 60.0° E.
The Southwest Monsoon Withdrawal Line on October 17th
There is a Low Pressure area East of both Srilanka and Tamilnadu Coast. This Low is expected to track mostly West Northwestwards and will cross over to Arabian Sea. The winds over Tamilnadu and parts of Southern Peninsula are now mainly from Northeast suggesting the withdrawal of Southwest Monsoon from rest of Peninsula India. Conditions are favorable for Northeast Monsoon to set in over Tamilnadu and Kerala today.

18th to 25th October Southern Peninsula
Coastal Tamilnadu expected to receive 7 Cms. to 15 Cms. during the forecast period. South Tamilnadu expected to receive 10 Cms. to 15 Cms. during the forecast period. North Tamilnadu expected to receive 3 Cms. to 6 Cms. during the forecast period. Kerala expected to receive 8 Cms. to 12 Cms. during the forecast period.
Chennai to receive most of the forecast rainfall during 18th to 22nd.
Some isolated places could receive up to 20 Cms. of Rainfall during the forecast period.
